Dan and Don May Get the Hammer

At last, the Federal Trade Commission is going after celebrities and consumers who make incredible-sounding claims in ads.  The agency is considering tightening the rules, which could affect everything from celebs' claims about brands on talk shows to fact-checking assertions of weight loss in ads.

The latest company to undergo some scrutiny is Nutri-System.  They run a TV campaign featuring former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino and former coach Don Shula.  Marino claims he lost 22 pounds (pounds of what?  lean mass or body fat? see the video)  on the diet and Shula claims 32.

The ads say, "Results not typical," but what the heck does that mean?  Can anyone tell us just what "typical" would actually be?  All fitness professionals know that personalization is key to the process of weight-management (please... see the video!)

In addition to the Marino-Shula endorsements, NutriSystem's Web site carries testimonials from customers who say they lost between 30 and 101 pounds.

Once again it's apparent.  FITNESS is the ONLY VIABLE PROTOCOL FOR LONG-TERM WEIGHT-MANAGEMENT.   Whew..... that felt good to shout.

To your continued Success!
